No working critical blood gas machines

To whom it may concern, I am a doctor working at the charlotte Maxeke johannesburg academic hospital. For the past month there have been no working blood gas machines throughout the hospital. To the lay person this may sound unimportant; however blood gas machines provide critical and valuable information for patient care. The results allow doctors to interpret how stable a patient is and make valuable and life saving decisions based on the results. As a result valuable blood products are wasted as proper results are no available, when there is a country wide shortage. It is shameful and disgraceful that hospital management have done nothing to improve the situation and rather our complaints and concerns have fallen on deaf ears. We pride ourselves on excellent care; however we the medical staff can only do so much with inefficient and broken machines. The tragedy of the situation is our patients suffer and bare the burden of inefficient and useless management.
