Iphone 4 crashes and no one can fix it

Iphone was upgraded now it doesnt work . tried to hard reset and once i try to install an app the phone dies and the apple logo switches on and off. the apple site gave me information on what to do and that also didnt help. my girlfriend took it in for repairs and was told it is irreparable . how did a company's product become so unreliable and faulty in 2 years???
