Flat screen tv

We bought a lg flatscreen 40" tv in december 2010. In 2012 we had to send it in for repairs because it had a red stripe on the lcd from top to bottom on the right side of the tv. This morning the tv just isnt working anymore. Are a flatscreen tv at their cost supposed to only last 2 and a half years? The only time the tv gets used is at night when we get into bed. I am realy very dissapointed in LG's products qaulity. The tv is just out of its warranty and now its not working anymore.
