S4 unreliable

I recently upgrade my wife's phone and selected a Samsung Galaxy S4. Now, a few months later, the phone just shuts down while she is busy talking or even messaging. Then the phone won;t start again and you have to plug it back into the power. Checking the battery, it shows that there are sometimes more than 90% power left.

Is this really what one expect from a top of the line smart phone?

This surely makes one think... :(
