Samsung Galaxy S4 Battery

My phone which I got in July battery is giving me problems, phone restarts when there is still adequate power left and then shows battery critically low when it starts up. It sounds like this is a big problem that Samsung knows about and I want to know why they did not inform me when I was at the service center a while back as I live 2 hours drive from the nearest service center and cannot just just in the car to take the battery in.
