S4 battery

I have had my S4 for less than 6 months and for the past month the battery has been giving me problems. It just switches off even if I have 50% battery life left. This morning I took it off the charger and it just died. This is absolutely unacceptable. My phone will not even switch back on now. I am very dependent on my phone. I tried contacting the service center in century city, but I do not see why I should take time off work to run around getting my phone fixed (and being phone-less) after only having my phone for 5 months. I have heard so many complaint about batteries these past few days that it is obvious that Samsung is distributing faulty goods and now we the consumers have to deal with the fall-out.
