Samsung needs to be held accountable

Electronics and household app.

I bought a Samsung 42" LCD TV model LA37A450C1XXA on 31 July 2008, at that time it cost me R 11998.99 incl. VAT. Towards the end of July 2013 it suddenly showed "fog" all over the screen. We took it to our local repair shop who said that the T- board had failed and that there are no spares available. They suggested we contact Samsung direct which we did (their ref. 7112078467) and were told to take the TV to Liptronics in Bellville. After constant follow ups we are finally told this TV is irreparable and Samsung will give us a depreciation letter. All very well - this offer of depreciation is for a 40" LCD LA37A550P1RXXA and we must pay R5392.39. Through Price Check one can find the same model for R5590.00. Samsung have known for years that our model TV had a number of defects and should have ensured that there were spare parts to cover all the issues on this model for a good 10 to 15 year period. Our depreciation offer received today is a total insult - cost per part ratio Samsung is more expensive than a vehicle and one can get spares on a vehicle in many instances for more than 20 years. We have been advised only to buy Hisense - a RSA product - spares readily available!
