Peter The Plumber
"Free Quote" costs R450!

We got a flyer in our postbox from "Peter the Plumber" advertising that he gives a "Free Quote". We needed some plumbing done, so asked him to come and give us a quote. He was very friendly and helpful on the phone. He arrived with his helper a little after the arranged time and we explained the situation to him. He immediately started digging so that he could see what the problem was. He then told us how he would fix it and what he would charge.

We weren't convinced that he had the best solution to the problem, so discussed other options. We then told him that we thought we needed to get other quotes first. He then demanded a R450 call-out fee and became very aggressive. We asked him nicely why he had given us a flyer advertising "Free Quote", but was now asking for a call-out fee. He just became even more aggressive and started swearing at us and he insisted that we must pay him a call-out fee because we hadn't just spoken, but he had actually done some work by digging to see what the problem was (it took him no more than 5 minutes to dig, as the ground was very soft after the rain).
