Billing for services not completed

In October 2012 our toilet got blocked for some reason. I contacted All Trade Services who told me they were plumbing contractors. A plumber came the next day and got to work on the toilet. After informing my wife that they removed the blockage, they left.

When I arrived home that evening, the toilet was still blocked. I phoned the company and was told that there was nothing they could further do. I contacted a second plumbing company, who fixed the problem.

I never received any invoice from All Trade Services until today, where they demanded urgent payment for "Opening of drain" as it is written on the invoice. No date of service is recorded on the invoice.

I contacted them, where I was informed that "if you're not happy with the job, then don't pay." I paid them today.

It also transpires that this company is not registered with any trade organization.
