DELL make you pay for support under warranty

Four month old DELL Inspiron needed to have hard drive replaced in March 2013, but DELL took five days to concede this. Furthermore DELL do NOT offer the 24-hour support that they advertise in South Africa. DELL would not give me any support until I paid them R1500.00. After much complaining, and thanks to HelloPeter, they promised to refund me R800.00. All in all, my computer (which is my business) was down for ten days, and I had to pay a local IT company to fix up DELL's mess. (DELL had me do a backup of my data to a memory stick before they formatted the hard drive, however it turned out that the memory stick was damaged. All data lost. Evidently no reputable company should EVER advise a user to make a back up on a memory stick - simply not good practice. Now, three weeks later, I am having the exact same problems with my DELL, ie. slow, and freezing up all the time. I cannot afford to continue paying for support on this machine which is supposed to be under warranty. I cannot afford to be without a computer for another ten days either. I would like to warn that DELL DOES NOT OFFER 24-hour SUPPORT IN SA. Furthermore their telephonic support is third rate and unreliable.
