Products Conveniently Last until Warranty runs out

We are very upset to report that HP does not obide by their promised warranty periods.
On the 30th of August 2011 we purchased a HP Officejet 8500A. On the printer it clearly states that it has a 3 year warranty, so imagine our surprise when the call centre told us that our warranty expired in September 2012.
Now that it comes to the point when we would like to envoke the warranty to have the printer repaired, it conveniently expired and we have to fork out money to have a printer repaired which will cost more to repair than buy a new printer.
We were informed that the 3 year warranty was a warranty that you will use 50% less colour ink to print.
