Poor return policy

I purchased a PS2 Fifa14 with another game. The very same night the game got stuck. And every time we tried playing it the same problem. We had no problems with the other game purchased at all. A ring burn appeared on the disc. When we tried to return the game to BT Games, this is what they said. " The newer games uses dual layer discs and is most likely not compatible with the PS2 machines, Ster-Kinekor won't accept the games
back from them and therefore they can't swop it around" All they done was cleaned the disc and suggested that I sell it to one of my friends kids. My question is why would Sony Playstation and EA Sports release games that they know is not compatible with their machines? Either way BT Games' return policy is absolutely not consumer friendly and I'm sitting with a brand knew game my kids can't play. So much for service!
