When a cash back is not a cashback

We went into the dealership to look at the Sandero Stepway 1.6. We were told R141K and they had a special - an R8000 cash back that we could either use as deposit assistance or cash or whatever. We get the OTP and it is for R163k with VAT etc. We then had a problem with the finance which we sorted out. Yesterday we told Renault we did not want the tracking device because we get one as part of the insurance deal. They were not very happy but took it out. We then get the new OTP for R164K. So I speak to Sean and I ask why the difference. He tells me that on the original OTP they had put a discount figure of R7019 which is the cash back without VAT. I say no, that was not my understanding at all. My understanding verified by email from the salesman was that the cash back was a seperate deal altogether. He then gets annoyed and tells me that my husband has signed the OTP accepting the discount. I point out quite rightly that a Discount and a cash back is not the same. I think that it is extremely misleading to advertise a cash back and then include it in the deal for finance as a discount - why should the bank finance a cash back on behalf of Renault SA? it is one or the othe
