BMW South Africa
BMW - unacceptable repair time and no feedback

Cars & Transport

We purchased a brand new 320i BMW in mid Jan 2013. A month later (14 Feb), it became impossible to reverse the vehicle. The problem was intermittent, and when I visited the dealer on 14 Feb to ask for assistance, they merely offered to book my car for a service the next Tuesday. I was concerned that I would not be able to drive the car over the weekend, but they assured me this will not be the case. Upon arriving home, the problem became persistent and we went to the dealer again the following morning.

We were again told to bring the car during the next week, but we refused. They took the car and later informed us that the faulty part (ECU) would need to be replaced, and that this may take up to 15 working days to import/replace. They did provide a courtesy car. After this, virtually no feedback was given. When we wanted to know what was going on, we had to phone them. In some cases, I was told that the service consultant only takes calls after 9h00. Also, now it was the entire transmission which had to be replaced, and 15 days turned into amost 6 weeks. We still do not have the car back.

Not what you'd expect when buyng a new car, SHODDY service to say the least!!
