I own a 1999 BMW 318is. A full service record was maintained until the car failed to idle beginning of 2012. Menlyn Auto BMW took the car in and "repaired" it (cost more than R3000). My wife drives this car and kept complaining that the car still could not idle and stalled on uphills and right turns. In Nov 2012 she refused to drive the car and started to look for a new car. On 13 Feb 2013 I again took the car to the dealer and supplied the previous worksheet. I was later contacted and informed that they were instructed by management to first see that all services were up to date and then to look at the problem. They quoted R7000 for the service and stated that they this would not necessarily fix the problem. I refused and asked for the car to be returned. They charged me R700 for a diagnoses and refused my request for a copy. The car was taken by me to another workshop who found that the computer was the problem - in fact was the fault in the first place and not the parts BMW replaced. I have been informed that the part will cost R12500. I have been driving BMW's since 1980, but this was the last. Watch out for this poor service and rip-off!!
