Total South Africa
Unable to accept my method of payment

Cars & Transport

I am a regular customer at the Robert Broom Total garage, as it is convenient for me on my way home. I stopped to fill up my tank, as normal, but when it came for me to pay the attendant advised me that I could not use my FNB Cheque card. I was told that they do not accept chip cards, knowing this is not possible as I have used my card here before, I tried the FNB speed point inside the store. The cashier told me that he cannot accept my card and I will have to pay with cash or another card. While discussing this with the cashier, he ignored me and assisted another customer, which I found very rude. There was no Manager or Supervisor to assist me and I had to call the owner of the branch who could simply tell me there was nothing he could do. To resolve the situation, I had to draw money from the ABSA in store, charging me additional service fees and drawing costs to pay for the petrol already in my car. I strongly feel that the cashier handled the situation in a rude fashion and the lack of communication regarding the speed points not accepting my card beforehand was a display of poor customer service. I will not be using this service station in future nor any other Total Garage.
