Charged for nothing!!

No one minds paying for service but no one likes being ripped off. Let me say up front that the staff of this shop were quite pleasant and helpful but this is my tale. My daughters car stalled and after a quick look myself it was obvious that the battery and/or alternator were at fault. We jump started the vehicle and manged to get it to the above shop. The staff put a tester on the battery (less than 5 minutes) and told me a new battery was needed @ R 1100 which is steep but still OK and that a new alternator would be around R 10, 000 for the same model and they would look for a cheaper way to solve the problem... all good so far. I made some enquiries myself and found out that I had access to a similar alternator so asked them not to do anything to the car and that I would collect it. When collecting the car this morning, I was presented with a bill for R 399 for the battery test and labour. That is a total rip off. I strongly advise anyone thinking of using this Bosch Service Centre to get a quote before they "help"you.
