BMW sold me a lemon, say that's normal

Cars & Transport

In the 5 years I've owned my BMW 335i, I've needed to take it in for non-routine repairs on at least 12 occasions. These have included faulty injectors in the engine, failed turbo actuators, ruptured cooling systems, failed boot spring mechanism, failed glove compartment, and twice the bluetooth car kit has failed and needed to be replaced. I've only done 90 000km in the vehicle, and it's spent well over 5 weeks "in the shop" in that time.

It is currently with a dealership for a major engine repair as a result of a failed component. They have indicated the fault is abnormal and not caused by normal wear nor could it have been caused by operation of the vehicle.

I called BMW SA to express my exasperation and received the most astonishing responses, eg:
- "Mechanical items fail - it's normal" (even 12 times)
- "If there was a fault your vehicle would have been recalled"
- "The fact that there were 12 different faults proves that the vehicle was manufactured properly"
- "BMW will not compensate you for your time or loss nor provide you with a courtesy car"

It's bad enough that I was ripped off (handsomely!) for a faulty product, but why must you insult my intelligence too?
