First Car Rental
Contracts mean nothing to First Car Rental

Cars & Transport

I rented a Ford Figo from First Car Rental from 25 October 2013 - 18 November 2013. When signing the contract, I agreed to pay an excess of R5500.00 for Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) and the Loss Waiver (TLW) - even though this amount was excessive (and I'm sure illegal).

While we had the vehicle, it was damaged in a hail storm. This was reported to First. When the car was returned, they deducted R5500.00 for the excess and a further R450.00 as a handling fee. This was despite the fact that I never had an accident and the car was. In addition to this, they sent me a quote from a company in Johannesburg for the damage, but used a company in Durban to fix the car. Apart from having no clue how much the repair actually cost, they are blatantly refusing to refund me the money - even though an excess for an Act of Due is not detailed anywhere on their terms and conditions.
