Avis
Un-ethical business practice

Cars & Transport

On November 4th my insurance company arranged a courtesy vehicle for me with Avis in Lephalale. Firstly, collection was sheduled for 8am, but they could only supply at 12H00 and a deposit of R750.00 was requested uppon collection. I returned the vehicle on the 6th of November having travelled less than 100km. It took 18 liters of fuel in order to fill it before I returned it, which means it was not full when it was given to me or the vehicle is very un-economical. Patience did an inspection of the vehicle with me upon return, she confirmed that everything was in order. When I asked if any documentation needs to be completed by me she responded "no" and that I would receive my deposit back in six working days. Approximately one and a half hours later I received a call from Patience informing me that there is a chip on the windscreen and that I must deposit R 2500 into Avis' account for the damage. I do not accept the liability for it as anyone else could have used the car since the return, I contacted my insurance and they told me that they would settle the costs if need be. I am still waiting for my deposit to be returned to me. Is such dishonnesty standard practice for Avis?
