Renault will not swop out new car with defect

Cars & Transport

I bought a brand new Renault Megane 1.4 GT and after only 3 weeks it was giving low oil messages. On taking it back to the local dealer, they found that the engine seal was damaged. Now due to the fact that the car has done less than 2000km and is brand new, and due to the fact that it was obviously handed over to me with that fault as it would have taken about 3 weeks for the oil to deplete, and also due to the fact that they have NEVER EVER replaced a Renault Megane engine seal locally, this is quite obviously a factory defect.
However the case manager denied this, saying it's a component failure, without them even having stripped the engine to check! and she refused to state a reason why she thought it was component failure.
They said it's covered by warranty and will fix it, BUT this is a factory defect and was handed over to me with that defect! and as such the car should be recalled and they should be supplying me with a new one. They are refusing to even consider this. They don't even have these seals in the country - that in itself speaks volumes! All very well them fixing under warranty, but the car then becomes secondhand with possible further problems down the line...
