Petrol Cheats at First Car Rental

I recently had an experience with Car Rental which you might find interesting.

On 20 September this year I rented a Group A car from First Car Rental at OR Tambo Airport, returning it a week later.

Knowing that car rental companies charge at inflated prices for refilling the fuel tank, I, as I always do, filled the tank to overflowing a few kilometers from the airport.

When my deposit was returned to me a few days later an amount of R113.33 had been deducted for fuel. On querying this and receiving no reply either from the branch in Johannesburg or from the Chief Executive of the CMH Group, Mr Jebb McIntosh, I eventually did find someone prepared to speak to me.

I pointed out that the amount charged amounted to some 8 litres of fuel which would have given me 150 kms of extra driving. The rented car was a Chevrolet Spark which uses approximately 5ltr/100kms. I suggested that someone at their depot was siphoning off fuel.

After initially refusing to refund me the company eventually accepted that they were wrong and reimbursed me, claiming that indeed incorrectly charged for refuelling on reservation1827113, for this we would like to extend our sincerest apologies.
