Nissan Micra Repair - ten months and still waiting

Cars & Transport

My Nissan Micra was dellivered to CMH Nissan in Cape Town in February 2013, it was cutting out. Originally diagnosed as petrol in a diesel engine. We had only used diesel in the car. After endless phone calls we were told the ECU (engine control unit) needing replacing and had to come from overseas. More months of waiting and apparently the wrong one installed and the car still did not start. Then told it was not the ECU but a valve. More confusion, no written reports, no quotes and the car still not working. Finally after 6 months we were told that there was so much wrong with the car that it was no longer worth fixing. CMH accused Knysna Nissan of faulty repairs - they replaced the cambelt 7000km earlier. We involved Nissan Customer Care who sent a Field Specialist to CMH. His report was confusing and we did not get a reply to our request for clarity. The car is still stranded at CMH, 10 months after it was delivered there. CMH will not do more work on the car unless we pay them R5000. We don't have a clear invoice on where this cost came from. We do not know what further work they are planning or have any idea of the cost. But we dont have our car.
