Fuel surcharge despite returning with full fuel ta

I returned my car with a full tank of petrol, as per the rental agreement. However, as I had not used their preferred petrol station, I was told I would be charged an additional fuel surcharge. The use of their preferred supplier was not expressly part of the contract. When I argued that this was not acceptable, I was told I would be charged regardless. I spoke to the person who handed the car over to me and the conversation degraded into a he said - she said. I have always followed the standard practise of returning my rentals with a full fuel tank. This is the first time I was told (after the fact) that I was not allowed to use any other supplier. Aside from this unacceptable situation, the staff handling of the situation was less than ideal. Consequently, I would not use Woodford again or recommend them.
