Bad attidtude with inspection of rent

Before handing over the rent vehicle it was suppose to be checked by a rental agent. We were ask to inspect the car ourselves, but there wasn't even a pen in the car to report the scratches on the rim and the chip on the windscreen. We were on holiday and it is not the customer's responsibility to check the vehicles. How do we proof ourselves in a situation where the rude and arrogant rental agent inspecting the car on the 4th of August 2013 insisted that we damaged the car and that the scratches was "FRESH". He didn't' even want to listen to what we have to say and commanded us to go to the office and open an accident report. I will never make use of Europcar again, just because of the way we were treated by Tembela.
