Avis not refunding "held" money

I rented an Avis car for 6 days and returned the vehicle on Monday, 20 May. I received the invoice on May 23 and an amount of R1 275.49 was due. Avis received R3 342.53 by then, or kept "on hold". I thought that this would be more than enough to cover the balance due. Avis proceeded to also deduct the due amount from my bank account. When I called Avis, they said that the "held" amounts will be released within 48 hours and I should check my bank account today, Monday 27 May. But, I received different feedback today, telling me that I need to organise the release of the "held" funds with my bank as I bank with Capitec and Avis banks with Nedbank. Capitec's feedback was that they can't do anything as Avis/Nedbank generated the transaction and must therefore take action from their side. I agree with Capitec - Avis/Nedbank generated the transactions. They should reverse it. Why is it so difficult to get Avis to release the money? I need to add that I am very disappointed with Avis and will not use their services again.
