Sirloin steak and fries

I came to this restaurant last night (7 March 2013) for my friend's birthday, I ordered a the sirloin steak and fries, medium rare, and when i received a medium-weldone cooked steak, I informed the nearest waiter. My problem does not on how well my steak was cooked but rather how the waiter did not only did he not apologize but also gave me lecture about how their steak are aged and how i should of ordered rare instead of medium rare because their meat is different to the meat outside, resulting in a different scale of "how well you want your meat done". Now 2 problems here:
1) How is a customer suppose to know the fact that my medium rare (which is the same as all the restaurant I've been to) is actually your medium well?
2) It is not acceptable to blame the customer for making the wrong order when it is clearly, not my fault. I was not informed that this restaurant uses a different scale. I quote his words "you should of ordered rare instead of medium rare because the medium rare outside is our medium".
Apart from this, everything else was lovely but please, train your waiters
