Beachcombers Restuarant
Alcohol sold to children

Cafes, Bars, Restaurants

We were taken as guests to the Beachcombers Restaurant in Fish Hoek. Our party consisted of 5 adults and 2 children. (10 and 12 years old).

It was extremely busy which is good for their business, but bad for patrons as the wait for service was dismal.

Main meal was excellent and enjoyed by all. Some of the party, including the children, ordered Chocolate Mousse for desert.

One was a gentleman who is a recovering alcoholic. He has "been dry" now for 4 years and is vary careful about what he orders.

On receiving the desert, the children said it was bitter and our gentleman friend said it contained alcohol.

We argued with him saying that there was no way the restaurant would give children something containing alcohol. After much discussion we asked the manageress who replied that "Yes it has Frangelica in it". We complained and were not charged for these items. When clearing the dishes one of the waitresses commented that she too could smell the alcohol!!

I am shocked that the menu did not add that this was the case so that parents and people like our friend know to avoid this desert. Is this not illegal?
