Red Chamber Restaurant
Astounded this Chinese restuarant is so popular!

The Red Chamber Restaurant in Hyde Park Shopping Centre, Johannesburg has been around for years and is often cited as one of the best Chinese restaurants in town. So I was definitely excited about eating at it for the first time. However, I just had the WORST dining experience in years at this so-called 'great' restaurant. Hereafter a list of just some of the things I hated about my dinner tonight:
- the most monumentally rude and impatient waitress I think I have ever encountered - to the extent that my friend and I were left gobsmacked!
- the blandest spring rolls
- the worst pot stickers I think I have ever had - that also tasted slightly 'plastic'
- a delicious-sounding spicy kingklip main that was anything but delicious - oily, glutinous, surprisingly bland and that was left half-finished
- continuous inattention of our main waitress and the other wait staff - whether for serviettes, a glass of wine or even simply plates and chopsticks with which to have our main course

What a disaster! I was embarrassed to be the one paying for such a disappointing and downright bad meal, never mind the mostly atrocious service. I DO NOT understand its popularity - OVERRATED RUBBISH!
