I withdrew money using my credit card at an ATM in Emmerentia one Saturday. The Tuesday thereafter, while I was in my home in Roodepoort, I received an sms that R1000 was withdrawn from my credit card at an ATM in Pretoria. I immediately phoned the bank to report the case and have my card cancelled. It was obvious that my card was cloned the Saturday when I withdrew money in Emmerentia. I heard nothing from Absa, but on my enquiry was told that there was nothing wrong with the transaction - the correct pin was used - and I would have to pay the R1000. Why do I pay a card fee of R19/m? Doesn't this include insurance against cases like these? How was I supposed to know that there was some device in the slot that would clone my card? I feel it is rediculous of Absa to hold me responsible for the transaction.
