First National Bank
Newly weds - Additional fees for appropriate cards

Business & Finance

My partner and I recently got married, as a result we updated our details at our branch (with our new surname).

By ensuring that my bank has my up-to-date information, I have been told that the bank wants to levy me with a fee of R100 per card for myself and my partner to issue us with new cards. Nothing joyious about paying R100 per card to have it reflecting the correct information thereon. We have our normal current account, linked petrol account and credit card. That is at least R200 per person, depending whether or not the linked card will be levied an additional R100 or not. This means that for myself and my partner together FNB saw an oppertunity to make some money off of us, in this case at least R400 all together.

We refuse to pay this levy for FNB to have the correct information. As a result hereof it is a nightmare if an outlet request proof of identification for a purchase. As our cards reflect old surname and ID has the new / correct surname.

Our branch, The Glen said they would come back to us on this matter. Neither of us has had one phone call in this regard.

I am highly disappointed and disguised! This was suppose to be a special event in our lives.
