Standard Bank
Incorrect Balance Reflection

Business & Finance

Yesterday on my latest transaction I received an sms notifying me that my account balance was approx R 500. This morning I went to the put in petrol (R200) and my debit card was declined due to insufficient funds! I checked my statement and transactions that I made on 30 Mar were deducted from my account last night 09 Apr. Despite the fact that I received sms notifications and an account balance for those transactions as well. How can it take over a week for an immediate debit card transaction to be deducted from my account? As a result of this delay, I overspent without being aware and my account went into the red (I don't have an overdraught), if the correct balance had been reflected I would have adjusted my spending so as not to go into the negative. I have now compared the transactions and balances per sms against my actual statement and the balance amounts differ vastly (they did not when I compared them on Monday).

How can the sms balance and internet banking statement balance differ for identical records? How is it that my online banking statement can read one thing the one day and then be completely adjusted from weeks back the next? This is not sound practice at all!
