I received a call from an Absa consultant this morning informing me that my account was overdrawn due to bank charges being deducted. I explained to her that this had happened in the past and that I had visited my local branch months ago (which is not the branch where my account is held) and requested that the debit order date be changed to suit the payment date of my salary. Apparently this was never done and the call cut out while we were talking and she failed to call back - of course it was from a private number and I was unable to return the call. I then had try to find the correct number to call them on, which in itself was a mission! When I finally spoke to a consultant and explained that I had already made arrangements to change the deduction date for bank charges, she told me that I would have to go back to the branch to make arrangements - apparently I have to keep taking time off work because absa's staff are incompetent? Now, according to the consultant, the fact that my account is overdrawn, is going to affect my credit rating with the bank?! But my account is only overdrawn because of their own error!? I find this unacceptable!
