'Complicated' to settle account in full. Why?

My account was under debt review & I wanted to settle the balance & close the account. I asked for bank details & settlement amount;the call centre agent could not give it to me-said it depends on the status of my account which bank account the money must go into. I got an email address to request the bank account details. She could not give me the settlement amount as this is dealt with by another department. I got another email address to use to request a settlement amount (the email addresses use small text & large [CAPS] & if you get it wrong the email will not get to them. The turnaround time on this is 5 days for each email. On asking why the process is so long, when all the other banks could give me their details immediately so I could pay, she said that that is their process & banks have different processes. First time I come across a bank that does not want to be paid immediately and makes it so hard to pay. I was told this is the only way I can settle my account in full. I told her I believe the real reason it's so long is because they want to earn interest over the 5 days to squeeze the last bit out of me. Now I have been told I must go into a branch to pay this? Ridiculous
