Oakhurst debits account without rendering services

On Thursday 23 January about 16h00 I went into final negotiations with Oakhurst regarding an insurance policy. There was no formal contract as there were still uncertainty regarding some provisions. The next morning, 24 January, I cancelled the policy but Oakhurst already fixed a debit order to my account. After going to Absa to cancel the debit order, they informed me that only Oakhurst can do that before the first payment go off. Chrystal De Bruyn, my direct consultant, informed me that she can't stop the debit order so the premium and admin fee of about R750, 00 would go off on the 28th of January whereafter Oakhurst would refund me immediately.

On Tuesday, a amount of R1500, 00 was debited from my account by Oakhurst. Double the amout that Chrystal told me will go off. After various follow up calls and e-mails, I was told they have the right to withold the refund for 5 days as this is in accordance with their clearance and cansellation policy.

Up to date I have not received my money. This is an absolute disgrace as Oakurst is not rendering any services to me but they still take double the stated amount. I will take this to the Ombudsman aswell as the Financial Services Board.
