Ongoing pathetic service from incompetent staff

At the beginning of Dec my wife requested that the debit order for her loan be changed to come off my account effective 31 Dec. She was then advised they could not do it as the d/o's come off earlier in December and it would then reflect as arrears, but that they could make it for the end of Jan. on 24 Jan, I get an sms showing that they tried to take the money from my account, when it was only meant to go off at the end of the month. She calls &the consultant tells her he can see it's scheduled for month end and rectifies it. On the 25th my wife gets a sms that the d/o has now come off her acc. On Tues she calls, explains the story and is told the money would be returned to her acc by cob, or the next day, which is today, needless to say, no reversal. When she calls back, the begins. They tell her they cannot just change banking details, they need a 3month bank statement from me, and an affidavit saying they can debit my account, none of which was mentioned in Dec, or last week. As a result of this, her account was od, and now has a bounced do, which she has to pay for and negatively impacts her credit score!!!
