BEWARE - it costs money to loan, read fine print

I read the terms and conditions as I applied for a loan. There is a R350 contract fee - clients may cancel the contract within 7 days. I sent written instruction within the 7 days but just got an email back saying call us. I missed the email as I have been hectically busy at work!!! They have now debited my account for the R350.00 and I am tryong to get this refunded. In none of their documents does it inform clients that they cannot send their cancellation instruction in writing/by email - email said "due to the nature of your request"??? Clients are fully entitled to cancel their contract and this is detailed on their website and in all their documents, NOWHERE are clients informed that they MUST call. I am curious why are clients expected to call them when my cancellation instruction was very clear, attaching absolutely everything they would need. If they needed anything further, why can their staff not make a call to the client to "process" the cancellation. I await their response. It is amazing how many clients have been caught by the service fee as I see ALL the complaints on HelloPeter are about illegal debits. Time consumers took this to the Consumer Protection Council.
