Helping us prosper? Does not look like it

Helping us to prosper?? It surely does not feel like it.

We have applied for a student loan through ABSA for our son who would like to study BCom next year. We have been declined. While I acknowledge that we had some financial problems in the past, mainly due to the fact that my wife was ill and could not work, we now are in a position where we are able to comfortably afford the repayments on the student loan. Unfortunately Absa keeps punishing us for the mistakes made in the past. This is not helping us, or our son, prosper.

We are now at a loss at how to send our son to university. We cannot afford the repayments on a normal loan, which of course everyone keeps pushing on us. We can get a personal loan for R30 000, but not a student loan for R50 000. Insane. My logic tells me the repayment on that personal loan is way more than the repayment on the student loan and it is much easier to default on that.

I would really like Absa to reconsider. To rather look at our current situation instead of our past situation.. Giving our son a chance to prosper.
