I went shopping for my monthly groceries after receiving my salary on the 25th of January. When I came to the pay point to pay for the goods with my ABSA debit card, I was informed that there was no funds available for the purchase. I had to leave in embarrassment and without any groceries. I immediately hurried to my local ABSA branch were they informed me that I was a victim of "card cloning" and that every cent in my account was drawn within 4 days and that I was left with a balance of 0. In tears, shock and worry, I asked what they can do for me, seeing that I had no money to live on, and debit orders that go of on the 1st of every month, their response was that they reported the case to the department and at this stage I have to wait for a call from them. I was sent away with not a single penny on my name, no solution and no promise that my money will be refunded. Being a client of ABSA that has been a victim of "card cloning" I feel that ABSA must take responsibility and refund me A.S.A.P. I truly hope that they recover their client's faith in them after the way the whole incident was handled, but this could not be confirmed.
