Refund of Cancelled Insurance Premium

I had be quoted a substantially lower premium by another company for our vehicle and household insurance. I contacted Outsurance to check if they could match or better the quote but were unfortunately not able to do so.

On the 12 September 2013 I faxed OS, giving 30 days notice to cancel the policy, but the debit order was still deducted on the 1st of this month. I was informed that a written cancellation was not acceptable - it had to be done telephonically and thus could not be reimbursed.

In the meantime Ryan Padayachee still made every attempt to assist me where necessary, even if it was just to retain cover for some items, however I felt this would just be too complicated for me. He mentioned that he would see what he could do about reimbursing part of the premium. I did not feel too happy about this as I felt I had done due diligence in cancelling the policy and it had not been made clear to me that I had to do it telephonically. I did leave a complaint on the website.

Ryan phoned me this morning to confirm that Outsurance would be reimbursing me the full premium as soon as I sent them proof of the original fax sent.
