Cancelled my policy

I rang Budget to talk to them about my renewal for Home Insurance. The premium was considerably higher than last year. The person from Budget was extremely blunt, this was their best offer did I want to cancel?
Seeing as I have two weeks left to run and I had seen better quotes, I said I would not be renewing the policy.
Budget was very blunt again, "we will cancel the policy from today, thank you for your call". Then the line went dead. Not quite believing what I had heard I phoned back, gave my policy number and was told "This policy was cancelled" I did not want it cancelled today!! I have no house insurance, I was telling Budget that I did not want to renew!! "Cant be reversed".
