Capitec Bank
Negative Balence on Capitec Savings Account

Business & Finance

I had received a deposit of R200 on 12-10-2013 and withdrew R50 from a Standard Bank atm due to the scarcity of Capitec atms. After withdrawing I had a balance of approximately R143 which was explicitly stated on the printed receipted I had received. A few hours later I felt terribly ill and desperately needed medication. I then proceeded to the local pharmacy. When it was time to pay I was told that I had insufficient funds and therefore couldn't make any purchases. I thereafter went directly to the nearest atm to check my balance. I was shocked to see that I had a negative balance of R49.52 on my savings account! I have no explanation of where the R143, which I definitely know was in my account earlier, had disappeared to or how I could have acquired a negative balance. As a result of this I could not purchase any medication and had to suffer in silence. This is very disheartening and unacceptable. I can unwillingly bear the numerous problems with my GlobalOne chip card when purchasing but losing my hard-earned money, acquiring a unexplainable negative balance and being unable to buy anything until I have visited a branch is truly too much!
