I had gotten comprehensive cover from Santam, for my household and all my vehicles, Just to give you an idea, my business to santam is worth R 6400 a month. I took out my cover last year April 2012, I bought a new house that came with a pool. Santam had requested that i have an alarm system etc fitted at home so i am comprehensively covered. I had complied with all of Santams requests. Recently the pool at my house begin to leak, I contacted my insurance company which is Santam. I was told the repair could not be done because the pool had poor workmanship, hence they will not pay for it. This to me is unacceptable and unethical, practice. The repair was estimated around R30000. I have been paying for more than a year in this time Santam never once sent out an accessor to inspect the property when i took the policy, they accepted all risk. Now more than a year later when its time for them to provide the service i pay them for i am being given excuses. Is this how a valued customer is treated? Is this the type of unethical behavior Santam practices? This is not acceptable, i will be taking this matter up with the OMBUDSMAN. If this is not rectified i will move my portfolio
