ALTENATOR FAILURE

Business & Finance

Last week my car broke down, and I towed it to GM Silverton. They informed me that my alternator had broken (electrical failure) and that I had to buy a new one. Luckily I had a warranty underwritten by Motorite Maintenance that covered the alternator.

Then I was informed by GM that Motorite rejected the claim because the vehicle was late for its service.

Alternator failure is an electrical problem which is not part of any service on any vehicle. I would accept their comment if there was a failure such as the turbo, engine or gearbox due bad lubrication, but that is not the case. Electrical components such as the alternator, self-starter etc. is not part of the service checklist during any service. Thus the alternator is not an item to be checked by service personnel on any service.

Thus I ask that this claim be reviewed and the reason be explained in technical terms relating specifically to service books and service manuals with reference to exactly how the service personnel could have/should have prevented the alternator from failing during a service.
