ABSA Rewards not so rewarding

I have an ABSA account but have switched to FNB, I did not close my ABSA account. I went to the bank today, bacause I wanted to close my account, I thought of the /- R20.00 admin fee accumulating every month is money that I'm just throwing away. But what a shock I got when I was told I need to pay in almost R2000.00 to close the account. Upon investigation it was found that there is a debit order for ABSA Rewards that is returns every month because there is no money in the account. This has been going on for more than a year, and not once did ABSA contact me about my debit order not going through. And to make matters worse is if I pay an amount every month, ABSA will first deduct all the 'arrears' debit orders that did not go through. And by the way, my ABSA rewards is only R48.00... really.
