WHY MUST I PAY FOR THEIR MISTAKE!!

I had a RCS card sometime ago, and I lost my job and my account ended up being handed over to attorneys for collection, I was then reinstated at my old job and started paying off my account through the RCS attorneys, I then letter received a call informing me that my account has been settled in full and I requested a Settlement letter which I received, but early this year 2013 I started getting phone calls and messages saying that I still owed RCS, I have e-mailed and Fax through the settlement letter to the new attorneys and to RCS as proof that I have paid, but to be informed that this letter was sent through to me in error and payment is still required from me. I feel that RCS needs to take this up with the attorneys and leave me in peace.
