Standard Bank
Deceased bank balance not payed out

Business & Finance

My uncle passed away in December 2012 after he committed suicide. I had to organise the funeral on behalf of the family and uncles kids ended staying with me until now. I went to Standard bank, where he had a bank account, as i wanted to close his account. The branch manager at Protea Glen Mall closed the account and provided me with a statement reflecting a rezo balance and advised me to go to the high court and get a Letter of Authority as my uncle had a funeral cover with them, I went to the court and i got the letter. I went to the Randburg branch and produced the letter and i was advised that he had a balance of R1000 in his account and that they would be paying this amount to me. The advised me that they needed to confirm the letter so i left and went back the following day. The consultant who assisted me advised me that they had confirmed the letter but they could not pay out the money to me as the amount of R1000 was not reflecting. They provided me with yet another statement to take to the high court for yet another letter of Authority. The judge who provided the letter had advised me that the letter would work wherever it was needed for my uncle's assets. I am very unhappy
