I went out to go an inspect the geyser myself and what I discovered was that the rubber by the element was still intact with the silicone we have used when we replaced the element.
How did the plumber managed to see the rust inside the geyser if the screws that have some silicone on it still have it on, and since the inspection took place on Tuesday the 22 May 2012 the evening around 18h40 there is no signs that the screws were loosen with a spanner as the rust is still on the screws.
Secondly there was no mentioned made in the report that the thermostat was faulty that could have lead to the overheat of the
element causing the geyser to burst.
We tested the thermostat for continuity between the input and output of the live side and found that there was no continuity meaning the thermostat was faulty. A faulty thermostat or a faulty safety valve can cause a geyser to burst.
On the other hand you as the insurer who are dealing with such issues on a daily basis, why did you not make me aware that I have to service my geyser on a regular basis, to prevent wear and tear and why did you not do a pre inspection to determine the state of the geyser when you accepted me as a client.
