One day a couple of thousand rand disappeared from my savings account. After a visit to standard bank they informed me that they opened a cheque account in my name and transferred funds. I would like to point out that at no point did I give any permission for the opening of this account or the transfer of my money. I immediately requested that the account be closed. After this I got numerous calls from Standard bank threatening legal action with regards to this account that has been closed to my knowledge. Yet another visit to the bank to close this account resulted in an actual email as proof that it has been closed.

A week ago I received a call from a lawyer. He informed me that they are taking legal action against me for banking fees that have not been paid on this account. This amount keeps on increasing month after month. How is this possible if the account is closed??

I received another call 10 minutes ago. Yet another reminder of how much I owe them and that I need to pay ASAP.

So Standard bank is threatening me with legal action on an account that they illegally opened and refuse to close!
