Outsurance
BEWARE OF OUTSURANCE'S "Item Not Concealed "clause

Business & Finance

I have just had a claim rejected by Outsurance - a MacBook was from my Toyota Heritage 4x4 with extra 35% tinted windows and smash and grab concealled under a gym bag on the floor behind the driver seat. The reason for rejecting the claim - Item Not Concealed!!! According to them an item need to be locked in a boot or canopy with smash and grab?? How is that possible??? Do they know a canopy can be opened easily without breaking a window?? The fact that I drive an LDV certainly makes it very difficult to comply with this clause or any SUV drivers. I specified the item and contributed to a higher risk, this should surely allow the cover to be in place taking my trade into consideration (high risk carrying on me whilst on site for instance). As a non insurance specialist I'm sure you would agree that the 'boot clause' should be explained by Outsurance at the time of sale as it's a material measure to be taken especially driving an LDV. This was not brought to my attention prior to the loss. Why would Outsurance settle similar claims but not mine? I am not going to settle or stop unless this claim has been settled. Easy they take a premium of R6000 per month? Ombudsman???
